Train. Rest. Recover. Repeat.

There is a fine line between training and over-training. Finding that delicate balance takes planning and the right tools to succeed. During resolution season it is easy to begin your fitness regimen with enthusiasm and end up doing too much too soon. Combining progressive high-intensity training with incomplete recovery ultimately results in fatigue and can be detrimental to consistency of your workouts.

Avoid over-training by gradually building up your time spent exercising. A treadmill or elliptical will allow you to completely customize and control each workout. Recover after each workout with a meal or snack, high in protein and within 30 minutes of exercise. Finally, allow for rest days between high-intensity training. Use those rest days to stretch, relax, and make use of your foam roller or massage stick. Cheers to the New Year and a New You in 2014!
