      1. I have a recipe similar to the squash and quinoa one you posted. Sautee red and green peppers and garlic in olive oil. Fix the quinoa as directed and add salt and pepper to taste. Then stir it in and sautee with the veggies until coated. Scrape out the desired number of portabello caps and drizzle with olive oil. Put the mixture in the mushroom and bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes or until tender. It’s amazing I know you don’t eat dairy, but I add feta before I put it in the oven. You can also add different spices.

  1. Do you have any recommendations for good protein bars that I could eat in between meals? I wasn’t sure if you ate those or knew of some good ones. i have tried Luna, Clif, Kind, Lara, Balance, and some other ones. They seem to have a lot of vitamins and minerals that my body really needs. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

  2. Hi there! Any advice on cellulite? I eat clean, lift heavy, but still have saddlebags with cellulite on them?!

    1. Most of the time cellulite develops as a results of body composition (i.e. Body fat %). In my experience, it typically reflects a diet that is higher in carbohydrates than protein. It can also develop/persist due to the amount of dietary fats. Start by tracking your macros (Protein/Carbohydrates/Fats). If your carbohydrate intake is more than 50% of your total daily caloric intake, that MAY be part of the problem. Some of us perform cardio early in the morning (on an empty stomach) to BURN FAT and reduce the appearance of cellulite. I hope this helps!

  3. I love your site and recipes! Very inspiring for a vegan woman! 🙂

PS- Would you be able to refer me to any doctors in Charlotte,NC that are vegan/vegetarian? It is so hard to find a health care provider here that can give good health advice to vegans. Thank you! 🙂

      1. Oh I know! However, the receptionist said you are not accepting new patients right now. 😦 So I thought you might know some other great doctors you could recommend. Unless you can get me in? 😉

  4. I am interested in knowing how you get a reasonable amount of protein being a vegan. I’m vegetarian and my trainer keeps telling me I will not get enough gains because I can’t get in enough protein from a plant based diet.

    1. Lizzy, I eat Explore Asian’s black bean spaghetti, quinoa, nuts, and I supplement with Garden of Life Raw Fit protein powder! On average, I consume over 100 gms of protein/day.

  5. Hi, there. I am currently pregnant with my second child and am seriously thinking about eating vegan once the new baby arrives. I am so delighted to have found your site—you look AHHHHHH-MAZING! I, myself competed in my first figure competition back in the fall of 2013 (I became pregnant with our first baby 4 days later, lol)! I have my mind set on competing again after second baby and as a vegan and I’d love to know if you or anyone you know offers vegan competition prep—meal plans and/or workouts? I have a looooong way to go to become stage ready again. Regardless, thank you so much for your inspiration!

    1. Hi Florence. Thank you for your kind words and congratulations on your pregnancy!!! Yes, I have a competition prep coach that I KNOW can help you with your diet as you prepare to compete again. My coach is Mr. Kim Oddo (bodybyo.com). He is amazing! Thanks again and best wishes to you.

      1. I greatly/GREATLY appreciate the recommendation!! Thank you so very much for taking the time! Best wishes for continued success!

  6. It is extremely impressive the time and effort you put into living a healthy lifestyle, especially being a physician yourself. You are certainly a role model for many, many people. Keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you so much Jeff! I truly believe we lead more by being an example to others. Everyday I aim to inspire and motivate at least one person to live a healthy life. Thanks again.

      1. Rats! It seems that you would be great at helping others prep for competition. It has been difficult to find a comp prep coach that is vegan or at least REALLY understands enough to give solid assistance.

      2. I read through previous comments and saw a recommendation. Thanks for creating such an informative site.

  7. I just wanted to say that your page is so inspiring! I am currently a 2nd year medical student at USC School of Medicine and I’ve been working really hard to maintain my fitness routine and healthy meal plans. I’m also very interested in possibly getting into fitness modeling to earn some cash since I’m sure you know life as a medical student is not glamorous. Thank you for the inspiration!!

  8. I’m looking to possibly go vegan but have some reservations (general and specific to me). Do you do consultations or have some type of other forum where people may ask you multiple questions about your experience in becoming a vegan athlete?

    1. Rhoni, I do not offer consultations unless you are in Charlotte (or in NC) and are willing to see me in the office as a patient (because I am a physician, I do not offer advice without an established doctor/patient relationship). I have several websites I can recommend though:
      Vegetarianbodybuilding.com and veganbodybuilding.com.

  9. OMG you look amazing. Congrats on being the sexiest Vegan!

What’s your secret on butt workouts? I have a booty and hate it! I’ve suffered with an eating disorder for 20 years and that’s my biggest problem area! Help!

  10. Hi! I just saw the article on you on vegan bodybuilding. You look amazing! I am 44 & did my first bikini competition 2 years ago. (Vegan 8 years now). I don’t have plans to do any more but am not happy with my body & seem to be struggling with the body fat. Would you be willing to share the name of your first vegan trainer that helped you when you were unhappy with your physical appearance. You said in 3 months you saw changes. I may need guidance like that. Any contact info you have would be greatly appreciated! I am in Columbia but can’t find any vegan nutritionalists or trainers here. Thank you very much.

      1. Thank you very much! And thank you for such a fast response! Just found you on Facebook. Your competition pics look amazing! You are such as inspiration for us in our 40’s!

  11. You look wonderful! I am a vegetarian and I have not been able to lose that tummy pouch. I eat clean and lift heavy. I will admit my cardio is minimal… any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you and God Bless.

  12. Hi Dr. Davis I have been a vegan (self-taught) for a couple of months and have been looking for a veggie friendly Doc. Do you have availability and where are you based? Or can you refer me to a plant based diet Physician? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Jay. I would be more than happy to have you as a patient. I’m at Carmel Family Physicians in Charlotte, NC. When you call, let the scheduler know that you’re vegan and I have agreed to see you as a new patient

  13. Hi Dr. Davis. Thank you for your inspiration! Do you offer out of state consult-coach services, or have any colleagues in the MD-DC-VA area who know plant-based diet, athlete prep, (bikini) athlete prep, sports competition training? Thank you!
